Car-free university day 2022

The student self-government and co-determination (StuPa & StuRa) celebrates the Germany-wide Car Free University Day on June 21, 2022, also at the BTU to draw attention to the relevance of climate-neutral, environmentally friendly and socially just mobility.

For this purpose, there will be a Market of Opportunities on Tuesday, where a bicycle workshop, bicycle coding by the Verkehrswacht, LendingBar with coffee, drinks and cake, clothing swap party, sports and dance classes, as well as an information booth from the StuRa and the Gumno-Garten will be offered. Bicycle coding will be available to anyone interested between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., while the market with various booths will take place between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Verkehrswacht will code your own bicycle free of charge, but you will need to bring proof of purchase and an ID card. The action day will take place at Konrad-Wachsmann-Alle 6-8 in front of the teaching buildings 2C/D. Its purpose is to get people talking about mobility and to bring attention to various student sustainability projects.

"For this week in particular, we would like to encourage all students and staff to leave the car behind for a change and reach for climate-friendly alternatives," comments Monika Zielinski, Officer for Health, Environment and Mobility.

"The topic of mobility is particularly relevant for students. Students are often in a weaker financial position and thus depend on cost-effective and publicly available mobility options," describes Stefan Binder, presidium member of the student parliament. "Motorized individual transport also contributes to the aggravation of climate catastrophe and species extinction. The effects of these two crises will increasingly burden the younger generations, to which students mostly belong, during their lifetime."
