Senftenberg alumni celebrating 50th alumni anniversary

Half a century filled with careers and adventures.

In 1972 the seminar group A 72/1 began their studies in Senftenberg. The group met this October to celebrate 50 years of matriculation. The anniversary was full with joyful nostalgia and funny memories and anecdotes. Then as now, studying in Senftenberg was characterized by close contacts and a friendly environment. A lot has changed on campus and in the course since then. Unimaginable today, back then it the students had to use a slide rule for calculations. "Only in the final year of study did a fellow student have a pocket calculator for basic arithmetic," says alumnus Wilfried Ludewig. Later, in 1983, he got his first computer at work that was integrated into the desk. It was heavy and huge, and yet only had 64 kilobytes. He used it to create calculations for lighting systems. The introduction of smartphones and LED lighting many years later naturally seemed like a revolution and a new age in comparison.

The group meets annually with the exception of the last corona years. The anniversary meeting will be remembered in particular. As well as before that meeting in Berlin in 1989, where they booked tickets for the Friedrichstadt-Palast well in advance and got tickets for Nov. 16, 1989. Back then, of course, no one suspected that shortly before, on November 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall would be opened. The meeting then passed in joyous and animated chaos. It was difficult to get petrol in East Germany during the week because the entire population was out and about. But somehow most of the alumni found their way to Berlin and the meeting as well as the whole situation around it became an unforgettable adventure. Even today, the group jokingly thanks the goverment for opening the border especially for their meeting. Apart from many nice and some turbulent seminar group meetings, the alumni can look back on successful degrees and careers.

The BTU congratulates the seminar group A72/1 on the anniversary.
