Prospective students from Ukraine visit the Senftenberg Campus

Ukrainian participants of the German intensive course at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) visited the Senftenberg site on October 26, 2022. In addition to a campus tour and insights into mechanical engineering studies at the university, the 21 young people familiarized themselves extensively with the nursing science course.

The aim was to show the range of nursing activities across the lifespan and also to introduce teaching methods of the nursing science course. After a short introduction and the presentation of the study program, the young people gained their first practical experience. In a rally with wheelchairs and crutches, they experienced obstacles and hurdles on the campus grounds. With great curiosity, the Ukrainian prospective students tested the possibilities of the simulation mannequins in the SkillsLab. They enthusiastically explored the pediatrics room, which is used to train special pediatric nursing units. Questions about treatment methods were clarified and comparisons were drawn between everyday nursing care in Germany and Ukraine. Under professional supervision, blood pressure measurements were tried out. By means of various aids, the participants were able to understand how the aging process feels and which support aids are necessary. They were fascinated by the use of glasses that simulate various eye diseases. Likewise, special gloves allowed them to experience how fine motor skills change with age.

Jana Werner, coordinator for the social program and project lessons, in the German intensive course, praised the interesting and practical insights into the nursing science course on behalf of the participants: "The Ukrainian prospective students felt warmly welcomed on the campus in Senftenberg. They were particularly impressed by the dual degree program model in nursing science, which combines training and study and does not exist like this in Ukraine."

Olga Epova, a graduate of the BTU project Bridge to Studies and currently a master's student in the architecture program, supported the program with her language skills. "Not only the participants, but also I myself had a lot of fun getting to know and trying out the nursing science course," she emphasized.
