Prof. Gesine Grande visits Azerbaijan with BTU delegation

From December 7 to 10, 2022, a four-member delegation of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) led by President Prof. Dr. Gesine Grande will visit the Technical University of Azerbaijan (TUA), the Azerbaijani Ministry of Science and Education, the Academy of Sciences, and the German Embassy in Baku.

The visit will focus on coordinating the development of existing cooperations. The BTU president will be accompanied by the university's scientific director for international affairs Prof. Dr. Michael Schmidt, the vice dean for teaching at the Faculty of Mechanical, Electrical and Energy Systems Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sylvio Simon, and the doctoral student at the Department of Joining and Welding Technology Iuliia Morozova.

The trip kicked off with a visit to TUA on December 8. In addition to the exchange on the further development and deepening of bilateral cooperation in the coming years, a double degree agreement in the planned BTU master's program "Lightweight Construction and Materials Technology" and a university-wide framework agreement on joint doctorates were ceremoniously signed by both university administrations. In addition, a visit to the Ministry of Science and Education was on the agenda in the afternoon of the first day. The focus was on talks about future cooperation projects of the BTU in Azerbaijan.

A meeting at the Academy of Sciences on December 9 will serve to discuss possible cooperation in the research fields of physics, energy efficiency and information technology. In addition, a visit to the German Embassy is planned, during which consultations on visa issues for students and researchers will also be held.

The partnership relations between TUA have existed since 2009, with the first cooperation agreement with the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences in Senftenberg concluded in 2010, which merged with BTU Cottbus to form BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg in 2013. Since then, numerous joint activities in teaching and research have taken place. International conferences, summer courses and workshops have been held by both universities - much of it sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD or the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.

Most recently, a delegation from the TUA led by the rector Prof. Dr. Vilayət Vəliyev visited the BTU in April 2022. In this context, an interdisciplinary agreement on student exchange between the two universities was signed for five years.
