Public lecture sheds light on Brandenburg's climate plan

In the lecture series "Open BTU", Prof. Dr. Bernd Hirschl will explain how the state of Brandenburg is to be led to climate neutrality on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. at the Cottbus Central Campus of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU).

All interested parties are invited to the lecture "Brandenburg on the way to climate neutrality - the climate plan as a key instrument" by the scientist working at the BTU and the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW) in Berlin in the Central Lecture Hall Building, Audimax 1. Admission is free. Registration is not required.

With the Paris Climate Agreement, a new basis for climate protection policy in all countries emerged since 2015. As a result, the current Brandenburg state government also decided to develop a climate plan for the state of Brandenburg for the first time. This is intended to lead the state, which is dominated by fossil fuels, onto a path of climate neutrality. Prof. Hirschl worked with an interdisciplinary team to develop the report that forms the basis for Brandenburg's first climate plan and is currently leading the study to develop the climate plan on behalf of the state of Brandenburg. He will report on the central results as well as the accompanying political and participation process.

Date: Wednesday, January 11, 2023, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Location: Audimax 1 at the central campus of the BTU, Konrad-Wachsmann-Allee 3, 03046 Cottbus.

Prof. Dr. Bernd Hirschl has held the professorship for management of regional energy supply structures at BTU since 2012. At the same time, he is the head and founder of the Sustainable Energy Management and Climate Protection department at the IÖW, with which a strategic cooperation exists.

About the lecture series "Open BTU"
From October 19, 2022 to January 11, 2023, the public lecture series "Open BTU" offers interesting insights into exciting scientific fields. This semester's topic is "Energy transition and structural change in Germany and globally". The interdisciplinary lectures incorporate current research approaches at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. With this educational format, which is open to all interested parties, the university's Center for Continuing Education supports lifelong learning and promotes the transfer of knowledge and ideas in the region by addressing socially relevant issues. In doing so, the BTU cooperates with other universities and institutions. After each lecture, there will be an opportunity for questions and exchange with the speakers.
