10th Potsdam Science Day - the BTU is taking part
Departments, institutes, degree programs and structural change projects of the BTU will present themselves at the Griebnitzsee Campus in Building 6 of the University of Potsdam with lectures on current research topics as well as experiments, hands-on activities and self-developed learning games. Information will also be provided about the BTU's future-oriented study and continuing education programs. Scientists, students and staff will be organizing the program. They are in the best company of participants from more than 30 universities and research institutions in the state of Brandenburg, with numerous presentations and hands-on formats as part of this event for the whole family.
All-day activities in the BTU program
In the award-winning educational game "re:construction" from the Information Communication and Media Center, participants explore the dystopian world in the year 2040 with their own avatar. The Central Academic Advising Center and the Center for Continuing Academic Education will provide information not only about the attractive range of study and continuing education programs, but also about unique opportunities in terms of entry, transition and return to successful study. Those who want to discover digital worlds of education , immerse themselves in a narrative world of education with VR glasses, or are interested in the use of artificial intelligence or drone technology are also welcome in room S19.
Multifaceted lectures
In several lecture halls of Building 6, lectures will provide insights into research and teaching at the BTU. Students from the master's program in vocational education for health care professions will kick things off. They will not only present their self-developed game with head, heart & handfor the generalist nursing training "Early Service in the Hospital" twice, but will also enable those interested to actively try it out. Prof. Dr. Douglas W. Cunningham will look at the 2000-year history of artificial intelligence in his exciting lecture. Innovations for the energy transition will be presented by Dr. Thomas Adam and Leon Fazlik from the BTU's new Energy Innovation Center. Prof. Dr. Julia v. Maltzahn will explain why it takes longer to get fit again in old age after a muscle injury and what role stem cells play in this.
Prof. Dr. Melanie Jaeger-Erben will show why we must overcome the affluent society, combined with examples of a new frugality beyond the accumulation of possessions. Prof. Dr. Klaus Birkhofer addresses the global biodiversity crisis and, with a focus on insect extinction, explores, among other things, the effects of species extinction on us humans and whether there are ways out of the crisis. The first climate plan of the state of Brandenburg is the focus of the presentation by Prof. Dr. Bernd Hirschl, who, together with an interdisciplinary team, developed the expert opinion as a basis for this. Dr. Steffen Braune has astonishing things to say about the blue-green algae spirulina - a superfood that can help us stay healthy and combat climate change.
Background More than 30 universities and research institutions in the state of Brandenburg will present more than 130 hands-on activities, experiments, lectures and exhibitions on the topics of science, research, discourse, urban development, art and culture between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023, as part of the 10th Potsdam Science Day.
