Prof. Peer Schmidt re-elected Vice-President for Academic Affairs at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg

At the suggestion of the President, the Senate of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) has confirmed the current Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Peer Schmidt, in his office for a further three years after a public hearing at the university.

Peer Schmidt is head of the Inorganic Chemistry chair at BTU and has held the three-year position of vice president on a part-time basis since December 2020. Commenting on his re-election, he says: "I would like to thank the President and the Senate of the BTU for the trust they have placed in me. Above all, however, I am delighted to be able to continue with commitment all that we have successfully advanced over the past three years. I would also like to thank my team, without whom the implementation of numerous projects would not have been possible at all."

Among the successes of his first term (2020 - 2023) are the increase in the number of first-year students, digitization in teaching, and the further development and sharpening of the BTU's degree program profile. It was not until the end of 2022 that the innovatively oriented study programme "Primary School Teacher Training" was launched at the BTU site in Senftenberg, which Prof. Schmidt and his team designed in coordination with the Brandenburg Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science at lightning speed and which will already start in the winter semester 2023/24.

"Getting theteacher training program up and running so quickly was already a masterstroke," explains BTU President Prof. Dr. Gesine Grande. And on the re-election of her vice president: "I am extremely pleased to have Prof. Schmidt at my side for another term. Thanks to his tireless and prudent efforts, his analytical skills, and his passion for teaching and studying, he has set things in motion and taken the BTU a big step forward. It isa pleasure for me personally that the university and our Senate also hold Peer Schmidt and his work in great esteem."

The board chairperson of the Senate, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ingolf Petrick, added: "With respect and high regard for the successful work he has done in recent years, I am pleased that Prof. Schmidt will be able to continue his work. I wish him all the best for this."

The second term of office of Vice President Peer Schmidt will begin on December 4, 2023. The terms of office for committees and officers of the BTU are governed by the Constitution of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg.
