On 06.06.2023, we took the train to Wacker Chemie AG in Nünchritz with a group of students, primarily from the Thermal Process Engineering module, but also other interested parties.

We got insights into the history, the structure of the plant and the perspectives of students at Wacker Chemie AG. With an area of several soccer fields and columns up to 86 meters high, the site is very impressive. The plant is an employer for about 1500 employees. We learned that Wacker products can be found everywhere in our daily lives. They produce silicon-based materials, including about 200 different silicones, silicas and high-purity polycrystalline silicon for the solar industry.

In addition to informative technical presentations, we were given a guided tour of the plant site and an insight into the planning and construction of a new plant on the site. We were able to see the new buildings, equipment and warehouses that were nearing completion.
