Survey on traffic behavior in Northwest Brandenburg
Currently, large posters at Berlin's main train station promise "mobility of tomorrow" and shortened travel times between Berlin and Szczecin. While the expansion of the line runs until 2026, researchers at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) are asking themselves how the development of the line will affect the rural areas of northeast Brandenburg and the German-Polish interconnections.
In order to be able to provide answers to this question, the BTU's Regional Planning Chair has launched an online survey. In it, people in Barnim, Uckermark and the Szczecin metropolitan region are being asked about their use of various means of transportation, their satisfaction and their needs. The resulting findings form the basis for further research to make bus and rail more attractive.
The survey will run until December 31, 2023, and is available in German and Polish. The researchers are asking people in the study area for ten minutes of their time to actively help shape the future development of their region. As a thank-you, ten Amazon vouchers worth 20 euros each will be raffled off among all participants afterwards.
Background
Mobility affects everyone, and every single answer to the question of what moves people between Berlin and Szczecin counts. The BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and the Regional Planning chair see the survey as a fundamental step toward improving mobility in northeast Brandenburg and setting the course so that the promises on the posters at Berlin Central Station become reality.
The survey is part of the project "Cross-InnoNet: Cross-border services of general interest Berlin-Szczecin". The research and development project runs from 2022 to 2024 and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the funding measure "WIR! - Change through Innovation in the Region." It is part of the innovation alliance "region4.0", which is coordinated by the Eberswalde University of Applied Sciences (HNEE). The alliance "region 4.0" is an association of more than 50 actors in Uecker-Randow, Uckermark and Barnim, who want to shape the future of the region together.
