Prof. Dr. Uwe Riedel awarded the Russell Severance Springer Professorship

Uwe Riedel, Director of the DLR Institute of Low Carbon Industrial Processes and Chair of Decarbonized Industrial Processes at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, has been awarded the Russell Severance Springer Professorship at the University of California, Berkeley for 2023/24.

This award is aimed at outstanding national or international scientists who are nominated by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California and appointed as a "Visiting Professor".

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Uwe Riedel has headed the Chair of Decarbonized Industrial Processes at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) since 1 October 2021 and is Director of the Low CO2 Industrial Processes at the German Aerospace Center. The institute's research focuses on the specific requirements and research needs for the decarbonization of many different industrial sectors. At the same time, the institute's research topics complement DLR's developments in sustainable power generation and storage.

In cooperation between BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, the Institute ofLow Carbon Industrial Processes of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy (IEG) and the Competence Center for Climate Protection in Energy-Intensive Industries (KEI), the Cluster Decarbonization of Industry was founded in November 2021 to support the transformation process of industry towards climate neutrality within the structural change in Lusatia as a source of ideas and multiplier. Prof. Uwe Riedel is also a member of the board of the Lausitz Science Network e.V. (LSN).
