Dean's List of the Faculty of Business, Law and Society - honoring the best students

On Friday, February 16, 2024, Faculty 5 - Business, Law and Society at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) honored its best students of 2023 for the first time as part of the Dean's List.

A total of five Bachelor's and two Master's students of Business Administration were honored for their achievements in the Information, Communication and Media Centre (IKMZ) in a festive atmosphere. The ceremony was made possible thanks to the kind support of Sparkasse Spree-Neiße.

Prof. Dr. David Müller, Dean of Faculty 5, welcomed the award winners, their families and other guests to the award ceremony for the top three percent (Bachelor) and the top one percent (Master) of students. He gave the award winners suggestions for their future careers, based on a quote from Kafka: "Paths are only created by walking them". In keeping with this, two BTU alumni of the faculty with very different career paths enriched the event with keynote speeches: Annekatrin Brill, employed tax consultant at Connex Steuer- und Wirtschaftsberatung GmbH, and Stefan Hartig, founder of Hartiste Teamwear with the online retailer DERTEAMSPORTPROFI. Both alumni emphasized in their speeches: "There are many paths you can take after graduation. Studying Business Administration at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg not only prepares you with theoretical knowledge, but also provides methods for acquiring knowledge that can help you successfully follow your chosen path. "Whichever path you take, it's worth it," both speakers agreed - whether you hold the certificate in your hand after the demanding tax consultant exam or think back with nostalgia to how you created the first website for your own store at the IKMZ.

The subsequent presentation of the certificates to the award winners took place in a festive atmosphere with musical accompaniment.

The following were honored:

Bachelor of Business Administration:

  • Romy Ballack
  • Emma Kubsch
  • Luis Schmid
  • Simon Benedict Stein
  • Nadine Zschiesche

Business Administration Master

  • Siri Bewersorf
  • Mary Altschuler

On behalf of the students, Luis Schmid thanked for the idea and organization of the Dean's List and the Sparkasse Spree-Neiße for sponsoring the event.

André Müller, Director of the Cottbus-Nord branch of Sparkasse Spree-Neiße, agreed: "It was an all-round successful event. The recognition and, above all, the appreciation that all seven award winners received is particularly noteworthy. The event had a very informal character and offered good opportunities for interesting discussions and personal exchanges. I wish them all the best for their future. Ideally in our region - in Cottbus and Spree-Neisse. However, it is important that everyone goes their own way. Whether as a trainee at the Sparkasse, as an employee or as an entrepreneur. Gaining experience is extremely important. The students have shown that a lot can be achieved with discipline, commitment, motivation and a healthy dose of relaxation. And so I am very sure that all seven will find their place in professional life. My personal advice: keep setting yourself goals and believe in them. Then many doors will be open to you."

The subsequent champagne reception and buffet provided an opportunity for students, alumni, partners and staff members of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg to network and exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.

With the introduction of a Dean' s List, Faculty 5 of Business, Law and Society at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg aims to recognize and fund particularly motivated and high-performing students with outstanding academic and performance verification results. As part of an annual award ceremony, all Bachelor's and Master's students selected for the Dean's List receive a certificate from the Dean of Faculty 5, which can be a valuable reference for applications.

Sparkasse Spree-Neiße has been a stable and reliable partner of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg for many years. It underlines this with an annual cooperation agreement and a generous financial contribution. The funds provided are used for various ongoing BTU projects. It also supports the "Dean's List" awards event for the Business Administration study programme. As one of the largest employers in the region, the Sparkasse offers excellent prospects and career opportunities, for example an individual career start as part of a 1.5-year trainee program for committed university graduates.
