Experience the future - here and now at DLR_School_Lab

The 16 school laboratories of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) across Germany, including the still young DLR_School_Lab at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU), have so far recorded a total of 500,000 participants in their experiments. They have now celebrated this together.

In a conference call on February 21, 2024, all DLR_School_Labs networked to look back on their successful development since the first such facilities were founded in 2000 and to look ahead to the future. The lab at the BTU in Cottbus was joined by 14 Year 11 students from the Physics course at Cottbus Max-Steenbeck-Gymnasium, who experimented together.

Just under a year ago, on March 2, 2023, the new DLR_School_Lab at BTU opened its doors for the first time. Since then, around 1,000 pupils - mostly from Brandenburg, but also from Saxony - have been guests here.

The DLR_School_Lab BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg
Experience the future - here and now! Under this motto, the DLR_School_Lab BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg invites pupils to take a trip into the world of research. The experiments in the Cottbus DLR_School_Lab are aligned with the key research areas of the DLR institutes in Cottbus and the BTU's profile lines. The young people carry out the experiments in small groups. The BTU thus joins the prominent ranks of science locations that allow children and young people to experience scientific phenomena and technical innovations in such a laboratory with exciting experiments.

The focus is on the topics of environmentally friendly aviation, the reduction of greenhouse gases in industry and research in zero gravity. The DLR_School_Lab introduces its young visitors to current projects: Pupils find out which energy source can replace fossil fuels and try out various forms of heat energy generation - and as an "encore" they even fly virtually to the International Space Station.
The "research visits", which usually last around six hours, are rounded off with short, age-appropriate presentations and films.

Teachers can select suitable experiments for their pupils.
The offers are free of charge.
Registration is possible at any time at DLR.de/schoollab/cottbus

DLR_School_Labs are school laboratories and extracurricular learning centers of the German Aerospace Center. They give children and young people the opportunity to discover the world of research and technology far beyond their everyday school life.
The DLR_School_Labs have a long history of success. The first school lab opened in Göttingen in 2000 and was very popular right from the start. The DLR_School_Lab BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is the 16th and first in Brandenburg. The DLR_School_Labs in Germany are visited by a total of around 40,000 pupils every year.
