Experience the fascination of numbers on Mathematics Day

On Saturday, May 4, 2024, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., students in grades 7 to 13 will find out just how exciting and even adventurous the search for mathematical solutions can be at the 3rd Day of Mathematics at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU). Registrations are now open.

Teachers, parents and other interested parties are also welcome at the BTU's main campus in Cottbus. After 2019 and 2023, the university and its Institute of Mathematics  are organizing thisday for the third time. Anyone interested in the varied program program of the 3rd Day of Mathematics at the BTU from escape room to research, now has the opportunity to register via their respective school or directly at tag-der-mathematik(at)b-tu.de directly. The number of places is limited.

The big mathematics competition for teams is once again the focus of the day in grades 7/8, 9/1 and 11 to 13. Attractive prizes of 500, 400 and 300 euros await the winning teams and the second and third-placed teams in each age group.

A varied program with lectures, hands-on activities and information about math studies can be experienced by participants at the same time and follows on from the competition. Scientists will show what's new in research. Mathematics is one of the oldest sciences in the world, which is needed today in many fields of application and which will be impressively conveyed by the speakers. Under the motto "Studied math and then what?", graduates will report on their professional practice. The film screenings in the math cinema as well as various puzzle games and the opportunity for individual student guidance and counselling are further highlights.

The organizing team of the 3rd Day of Mathematics, led by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Gennadiy Averkov from the Chair of Algorithmic Mathematics, is looking forward to welcoming numerous motivated participants who will rise to the challenges. The students will be particularly excited about the new escape room on the topic of Mathematics. An enigmatic email sends them there to solve a mystery. Teamwork and clever puzzles are required to get back to the exit.
The 3rd Mathematics Day at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg comes to a close with the award ceremony for the best competition teams.

The 3rd Mathematics Day at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is supported by PLS Programmierbare Logik & Systems GmbH in Lauta.
