Voluntary commitment to excellence in research

On February 29, 2024, the German Research Foundation (DFG) published the final election results: Prof. Katja Trachte, Prof. Jörg Nolte and Prof. Lars Enghardt are among the 649 experts in a total of 49 review boards.

Dr.-Ing. Michael Hübner, full-time Vice President for Research and Transfer at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, acknowledges the selection as an honor and says: "Iam very pleased that BTU is represented by one professor and two professors as review board members at the DFG. This is of great importance for the university and shows what outstanding researchers we have at our university."

The elected members of the review boards have the task of scientifically evaluating proposals for funding research projects in their subject area. They ensure that the same quality standards and comparable criteria are applied in all DFG funding procedures: Several subjects that are scientifically interlinked form a review board and thus a meaningful subject-specific area of comparison for the evaluation. The DFG's three-stage procedure includes review, evaluation and decision. The newly appointed review boards will be constituted at their first meetings in spring 2024.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Nolte is a member of a review board for the second time. He says: "I am delighted about the trust placed in me by my colleagues and my re-election. Over the past four years, I have been able to benefit from the exchange within the scientific community and have learned a lot about the high professional quality of the review process. I will use this experience over the next four years as I continue my work."

Prof. Dr. Lars Enghardt was also elected to review board 4.22 Fluid Mechanics, Technical Thermodynamics and Thermal Energy Technology, subject 4.22-03 Fluid Mechanics, via the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Prof. Dr. Lars Enghardt took over the professorship for Electrified Aircraft Propulsion Systems at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Energy Systems at BTU on 1 May 2023 in a joint appointment with DLR.

A total of 54,068 scientists took part in the review board election in fall 2023. There were 1,631 candidates for the 649 places on the 49 review boards. Around 150,000 eligible researchers were able to choose from the list of candidates to represent their chair on the DFG's review boards for the next four years.
