MINT-EC-Camp: "Materials for Future" - from molecule to material
The students, who come from seven German states, are accompanied by young scientists in the BTU laboratories on Campus Senftenberg as they solve the research tasks set. They will experience everyday research using modern methods of material synthesis, chemical analysis and computer applications in chemistry.
The joint program of MINT-EC and BTU also includes interesting lectures on topics such as "Biofunctional Polymeric Materials" with Prof. Dr. Ruben R. Rosencrantz or "Extreme Surface Area with Small Volume, Highly Porous Materials" with Prof. Dr. Olaf Klepel. Of course, the natural sciences study programmes are also on the agenda. The content of the MINT-EC camp will be supported by the new Bachelor's degree course in Applied Natural Sciences, which will start at BTU in the winter semester 2024/25. As part of a company visit to BASF Schwarzheide GmbH, the camp participants will gain exciting insights into company processes and professional fields. The Lusatian chemical company is also providing financial support for the implementation of the university program.
Prof. Dr. Peer Schmidt, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, who represents the chair of Inorganic Chemistry at the university, is responsible for the scientific management of the MINT EC Camp. "The MINT EC Camp is now a permanent fixture on our Campus Senftenberg. The students come with exciting questions and are extremely committed to contributing them to the scientific program. In this way, the camp is also a benefit for the participating professors and young scientists," says Peer Schmidt.

MINT-EC - The National Excellence Schools Network
MINT-EC is the national excellence network of schools with upper secondary level and a strong profile in Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciencesand Technology(MINT). It was founded in 2000 by employers and works closely with their regional education initiatives. MINT-EC provides a wide range of events and support for pupils as well as further training and professional exchange for teachers and school administrators. The network, which currently has 341 certified schools, has been under the patronage of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder (KMK) since 2009. The main sponsors of MINT-EC are the employers' association Gesamtmetall as part of the think ING. initiative as well as the Siemens Stiftung and the Bavarian employers' associations bayme vbm and vbw.
The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg
is an official university partner of the national excellence school network MINT-EC. The aims of the partnership are, in particular, to support pupils from schools with a focus on science and technology in their decision to study by introducing them to study options in the STEM subjects and to attract prospective students to study STEM subjects.
