This year’s international Open Access Week from 21 to 25 October calls for “Community over Commercialization”. Institutions worldwide are connecting, sharing knowledge and highlighting their efforts to make it a norm to give Open Access to information gained from publicly funded research.
This year’s theme continues the call to put “Community over Commercialization” and prioritize approaches to open scholarship that serve the best interests of the public and the academic community.
Open Access (OA) means free access to publicly funded scientific publications and research data.
„By “open access” to this literature, we mean its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.“ (Declaration of the Budapest Open Access Initiative, 2002)
The open access network also offers a wide range of online events during this week. Feel free to join them, too, if a topic sparks your interest.
