STEM women's scholarships for a further nine female scholarship holders

The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) has awarded the MINT Women's Scholarship for the third time in a row. Nine young women from different STEM study programmes can look forward to a monthly grant of 250 euros over two semesters and intensive support during their first career steps.

Alongside their studies, they are supported by the BTU's STEM ambassadors with numerous workshops, among other things. In a selection process, the scholarship holders have asserted themselves with a great deal of commitment, ambition, personality and motivation and qualified for the STEM Women's Scholarship. The scholarships are once again largely funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research's (BMBF) Women Professors Programme III, for which the university had successfully applied, as well as by BTU funds.

The scholarships were presented on 29 October 2024 as part of the third network meeting of the BTU's STEM Women's Network at the university's main campus in Cottbus.
Vice-President for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr Peer Schmidt honoured the scholarship holders in his laudatory speech and introduced them.
Once again, the Central Equal Opportunities Officer Birgit Hendrischke and the two STEM ambassadors Dr.-Ing. Ramona Riedel and Pascal Fritzsche accompanied the presentation of the scholarships.

The BTU STEM Women's Scholarships 2024 went to

  • In Faculty 1 - STEM - Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology to:

Anna Wujta, study programme Physics
With her insatiable curiosity, perseverance and tenacity for Physics and having already completed two internships at the DLR_School_Lab and the Chair of Theoretical Physics at BTU, Ms Wujta's path to university was clearly mapped out. Now she can devote herself fully to her passion, nuclear physics.

Julina Szonn, Mathematics study programme
Logical thinking and clear structuring with the aim of solving problems are not difficult for her. She is no stranger to the wonderful world of Mathematics and enjoys sharing it with others. For the first time, the scholarship has now been awarded to a female scholarship holder on the Mathematics study programme.

Alexandra Sattler, Computer Science study programme
Alexandra Sattler's thirst for knowledge drove her to BTU after completing her A-levels in Guben. She has already clearly formulated her goals: over the next few years, she wants to become an expert in software security and thus make our digital world a little more resistant to external threats.

  • in Faculty 2 - Environment and Natural Sciences:

Lena Hoppe, Environmental Engineering study programme
Lena Hoppe was the first scholarship holder to apply with a video and impresses with her charisma, personality and motivation for the field of environmental protection always in harmony with nature. With her previous knowledge in the field of Business Administration, she will certainly be able to set special accents in the field of sustainability during her studies.

Diana Laura San Juan Sosa, Environmental and Resource Management study programme
The desire for internationality and interdisciplinarity led Diana Laura San Juan Sosa from Mexico across the Atlantic to Germany and finally to Cottbus at BTU. In the ERM study programme, she can tackle and realise her desire and need to face current challenges, in particular in the field of climate change, together with like-minded people.

Caitline Cecile Brauer, Biotechnology study programme
Caitline Cecile Brauer came from Beeskow to Senftenberg after her trial studies with a clear goal: I want to study here! Her passion for Biotechnology was sparked by an experiment on the question "Are people genetically predisposed to like Brussels sprouts?". Caitline Cecile Brauer will probably be able to discuss this question often in the natural sciences courses at BTU.

  • in Faculty 3 - Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Energy Systems:

Alissa Scholz, Medical Engineering study programme
Even during her A-levels at Max-Steenbeck-Gymnasium, Alissa Scholz knew that she wanted to pursue her passion for Mathematics, Physics and Biology in the Medical Engineering study programme. She was particularly fond of the combination of the two disciplines of mechanics and electronics with a view to sustainable medical benefits for patients.

Ha Lien Pham, Business Administration and Engineering study programme
Ha Lien Pham hasn't just been toying with the idea of expanding her bag of experience in the field of business since yesterday. The BTU4FUTURE Hydrogen-Future-Lausitz lecture series made it clear to her: I'm not studying in Berlin, but in Cottbus! With the interdisciplinary focus of her degree programme in environmental engineering, she can now finally consider sustainable technologies and economic aspects together.

  • in Faculty 6 - Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning:

Ninel Heymann, Civil Engineering study programme
Ninel Heymann's fascination with everything from abstract drawings to finished buildings has had a strong influence on her to this day. Several internships in the construction sector and participation in the trial study programme ultimately cemented her decision to study Civil Engineering at BTU with the long-term goal of developing and researching new types of building materials. For the first time, the scholarship has now also been awarded to a female scholarship holder in this study programme.

The nine new scholarship holders were formally welcomed by the 14 previous scholarship holders at the third network meeting of the BTU STEM Women's Network.
Not only were the scholarships awarded at the network meeting, but the need for internal and external networking among women was also emphasised and highlighted in the keynote speech by Romy Hoppe, founder of the Lusatian Women's Network. At the subsequent get-together, the scholarship holders began networking and exchanging experiences with the network participants.
