Children's and pupils' university on a discovery tour at BASF
More than 60 children and young people accepted the invitation to try out various experiments and learn more about the products and the large chemical plant during the family-friendly factory tour.
The event offered over 60 participants from 3rd to 10th grade the opportunity to slip into the role of chemical laboratory technicians. Experiments were carried out with trainees in the plant's own laboratory. This not only gave the young researchers an insight into chemical processes, but also a practical approach to scientific phenomena. Parents were able to find out about the various apprenticeships and dual study programmes at BASF.
"The children's and pupils' university was a complete success and a great start to the future collaboration between BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and BASF in this area," says Janine Gärtner, BTU's study orientation and recruiting officer. The event arouses the interest of the young participants in the natural sciences. "Projects like this help to get young people interested in technical professions at an early age and show them prospects in these exciting fields in a fun way," says Anne Francken, Commercial Director at BASF in Schwarzheide.
About the children's and pupils' university
The BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg invites children from the 3rd grade onwards to get a taste of university life and imparts knowledge about scientific phenomena in lectures and excursions in a child-friendly way. Formative experiences and adventures are intended to arouse the interest of even the youngest children and reduce inhibitions about attending university after leaving school. The Children's University offers interested pupils from Year 7 to 10 the opportunity to understand scientific and technical topics and to awaken a desire for discovery and research. The Children's University at the BTU in Senftenberg and the Schoolchildren's University are supported by the Sparkasse Niederlausitz, while the Children's University at the BTU in Cottbus is supported by the Sparkasse Spree-Neiße.
BASF has always supported the Brandenburg University of Technology in a wide range of activities. From now on, both the BTU's children's and pupils' university will be hosted by BASF in Schwarzheide once a year.
