Successful snowflake ball - "We'll be back next year"
On 11 January 2025, the student organisation team from the Senftenberg Departmental Committee Round Table did everything in their power to repeat the great success of the first event of this kind from the previous year - and they succeeded.
Atmospheric lighting and decorations transformed the canteen into a ballroom. After the reception with champagne and juices in the foyer, it quickly filled up with expectant guests in evening dress.
To welcome the guests, student presenters Elisabeth Großmann and Johann Malte Hübner first invited the President of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Prof. Dr Gesine Grande, to the stage, who described the Snowflake Ball as a remarkable initiative. Remarkable, among other things, because it is thanks to an idea and the extraordinary commitment of the students in Senftenberg.
"I am incredibly pleased that this model is so well received and brings our locations in Cottbus and Senftenberg together in a special way," emphasised the President. She warmly thanked the student organisation team and, on their behalf, the Studierendenwerk Ost:Brandenburg, in particular Andreas Gaber, who is responsible for public relations and culture, and Konstanze Keilholz, who is responsible for event management at BTU, for their great support in preparing the ball.
The Mayor of Senftenberg, Andreas Pfeiffer, also welcomed the guests to the Snowflake Ball.
"The university not only brings knowledge, research and innovation to Senftenberg, but above all young people with fresh ideas and enthusiasm who enrich our town. At the same time, our town offers the university the space in which it can grow and flourish," he explained. "The ball provides a perfect opportunity to celebrate this very community. May this ball be further proof of how vibrant and close the connection between our city and the university is."
Four at one go and dancing into the early morning with DJ Steve 'O'
The student presenters thanked the university, the Studierendenwerk, in particular the Senftenberg canteen team led by Ricarda Richter, and other supporters and invited everyone to dance.
The event kicked off with a slow waltz by the string quartet "Vier auf einen Streich" from the Instrumental and Vocal Performance and Teaching study programme at BTU Cottbus-Sachsendorf. Malina Riehl, Sophia Pötschke, Karl Rödiger and Julie Auer routinely performed the first part of the evening with a varied programme from different eras - from Mozart to Queen.
Afterwards and until two in the morning, DJ Steve 'O' ensured that the dance floor was always filled with cheerful ball guests. The hits from the 80s attracted a particularly large number of dance enthusiasts to the dance floor.
In between, guests enjoyed finger food and cake - provided by the canteen team - as well as refreshments from the student bar.
The Snowflake Ball organising team included students from the Biotechnology, Materials Chemistry, Applied Natural Sciences, Therapy Sciences, Primary School Teaching, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Medical Engineering study programmes.
"The evening went according to plan for us," says student Sebastian Ladendorf, who was particularly involved in the event together with Elisa Michel and Robert Ritter. "It was a great success for BTU and the student body at Campus Senftenberg. We are also delighted that students from the Cottbus campuses and from Senftenberg attended our second Snowflake Ball."
"It was an all-round successful evening: the snowflakes danced outside the window and the dance floor was always full inside. We'd love to come back next year," confirms Michael Strotzer from Senftenberg, who attended the Snowflake Ball with his wife Barbara Meitz.
The Departmental Committeesat BTU Senftenberg would like to thank those already mentioned for their support of the Snowflake Ball 2025, in particular: IT service provider Lars Schaedel for providing the website, Tim Lehmann from Seenland-Event for the sound and lighting, the two photographers Raiko Henry Lorenz and Sascha Thor for the great souvenir photos and the four-person security team, who provided excellent security for the evening.
