5G for change in Lusatia

The iCampus at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) is inviting industry partners to its 5G Day on 22 January 2025. The BTU's self-sufficient 5G network has been in operation since spring 2024. It can be used free of charge by regional companies. The focus will be on the advantages and opportunities this offers for commercial enterprises.

"We have two goals: We want to drive forward the networking of business and science in the fields of microsensor technology and digitalisation and present companies with new technologies and the latest trends in sustainable business management,"explains iCampus Innovation Manager Prof. Christine Ruffert, pointing to a wide range of innovations that have been successfully implemented as part of the iCampus. For example, the researchers have launched microsensor applications for a medical radar system, optical skin screening and predictive machine maintenance. All of these developments were the result of close collaboration between scientific institutions and companies.

In presentations and demonstrations, interested parties will learn more about how to install their own local 5G network and how it can be used for wireless data exchange between annexes, machines and the control centre.

More than 30 interested company representatives have registered for the 5G Day, which is being jointly organised by the iCampus joint project and the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Spreeland in cooperation with Nokia, Smart Mobile Labs and ASCOM.

On the premises of the BTU, participants will learn more about the scientific highlights from Lusatia and the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Spreeland. Participants will experience first-hand how augmented reality and virtual reality are already being actively implemented. At the same time, Nokia, Smart Mobile Labs and ASCOM will be presenting some of their security management concepts, such as alarm management and task management, as well as mobile communication and real-time video distribution on 5G smartphones with object and person recognition.

The Innovation Campus Electronics and Microsensor Technology Cottbus iCampus is a joint project on the subject of microsensor technology that combines the application-orientated expertise of non-university research institutions with the research strength of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. The aim is to establish products in the field of microsensor technology and digitalisation together with small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in Lusatia. The iCampus concentrates on the four focus areas of "Digitalisation / Industry 4.0", "Process and Environmental Sensors", "Agriculture 4.0" and "Medicine / Life Sciences", thereby addressing a wide range of possible applications.
