Presentation of the annual programme of the Berlin Climate Protection Council
The Berlin Climate Protection Council regularly visits the committee responsible for the environment and climate protection in the Berlin House of Representatives in order to discuss specific topics with politicians. At the 46th meeting of this committee, the Council was invited to a hearing to present key challenges and its priorities for 2025. In the run-up to the meeting, the Council drew up a programmatic annual agenda for the first time, which Prof. Hirschl presented as spokesperson together with the Council's co-spokesperson Dr Cornelia Auer (click here for the presentation).
The Council has identified eight key topics for 2025, which it will explore in greater depth over the course of the year in working groups, plenary sessions and supplementary events (such as the Berlin Energy Days), discuss with political players and stakeholders and condense into recommendations. The first topic will be transport, on which the Council has drawn up a critical and constructive statement in view of the massive cuts and deterioration in the transport transition in recent months, which will be discussed with the responsible senator at the next plenary session. Another topic in the first and second quarters will be the financing of the energy transition, which should be high on the political agenda following the failure of the special fund and in view of the tight budget situation. Other topics over the course of the year will include hydrogen as an energy source of the future and its prospects in Berlin, water supply in the face of climate change, the heating transition with a focus on geothermal energy and new climate governance for Berlin.
The minutes and video recording of the meeting will be published shortly.
