Sorbian lifeworlds in the digital age

A two-day conference on 20 and 21 March 2025 will explore the impact of digital technologies on the present and future of Sorbian/Wendish culture. The transdisciplinary forum offers a series of specialist lectures, workshops, an interactive trade fair and round table discussions.

The conference "Sorbian Lifeworlds in the Digital Age: Transdisciplinary Forum on the Present and Future of Sorbian/Wendish Digital Culture" is being organised in cooperation with BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, the Sorbian Institute and DomPro gGmbH.

The event is aimed at academics, but also in particular at digital culture experts, Sorabists, IT developers, producers and users of digital tools and resources.

After an introduction to the task and akeynote "Digital cultures and national minorities - new opportunities, old challenges?", the module areas: Communities, Spaces, Infrastructures, Practices and Imagined Worlds will be explored in depth in five different panels, promising plenty of interaction. Short specialist presentations will provide food for thought, while project presentations will illustrate the potential and challenges of digitalisation. The World Café "Sorbian digital futures" on the second day of the event will present results and perspectives from the exchange of expertise. In addition, on 20 March, 5:30 - 8 p.m., interested parties can try out digital tools and developments from the context of Sorbian/Wendish culture directly at an interactive trade fair. The projects presented will show examples of how digitalisation affects Sorbian/Wendish culture.

The results of the forum will become clearin the concluding panel discussion on 21 March, 3-4 pm. Researchersfrom the field of "digital culture" and Sorbian studies as well as users of Sorbian digital resources will discuss their views on the topic together with representatives from the Sorbian IT industry:

    Moderation: Dr Anastasija Kostiučenko-Kessler, Sorbian Institute

Digital technologies are shaping all areas of life in society. Scientists from various universities, together with cultural workers, filmmakers and representatives of the Foundation for the Sorbian People, Sorbian associations and the Sorbian Institute, will examine the effects this has on Sorbian-Wendish culture.
