Night of the Libraries - the BTU will be there!
The motto is "Know. Share. Discover." It is aimed at young and old, young and old. Whether you are interested in science or have a penchant for fiction - the city and university libraries in Cottbus and Senftenberg have something for everyone. It's worth taking a look at the programme!
Information on the programme of the libraries of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) at a glance:
6 p.m. to 10 p.m.: University Library at the Cottbus main campus
Information, Communication and Media Centre (IKMZ)
Platz der Deutschen Einheit 2, 03044 Cottbus
The guided tour "Behind the Scenes" through and into the hidden corners of the IKMZ offers a great opportunity for anyone who has always wanted to see the iconic building with its striking white glass façade from the inside. The meeting point is on the ground floor on the hour. In the Science Gallery, innovative research at the BTU is presented in a clear and practical way. Guided tours take place here every half hour. The exhibits can also be explored independently.
Artificial intelligence is on everyone's lips! In the exhibition
"I AM A.I. Artificial Intelligence Explained" on the 2nd floor, interactive experiments, videos and images can be used to gain insights and playfully explore the mechanisms of AI. Guided tours start at 18:15, 19:15 and 20:15. The short lecture "Easter greetings with AI" on the 7th floor at 7 and 8 p.m. shows the purposes for which common free applications for text and image creation are particularly suitable and where their weaknesses lie. For those who prefer to send analogue Easter greetings, the upcycling craft table, which is located in the reading room on the 4th floor next to the children's corner, is the right place. Here you can make Easter greetings cards, bookmarks and origami bunnies from old books and paper.
How do you actually use the university library and find information there? This will be explained in an entertaining and perhaps unexpected way in a library rally at 6 and 8 pm. Those interested can meet on the 1st basement floor. And anyone who has ever asked themselves which is actually the oldest book in the University Library's collection can find out what this so-called "mining bible" and the doctor and researcher Agricola are all about at 6 pm on the 7th floor at the lecture on "De re metallica" by Georgius Agricola from 1557.

"One night - two libraries" is the motto in Senftenberg on Friday, 4 April, when the BTU Site Library and Senftenberg City Library are jointly organising a varied programme for the Night of Libraries. In the afternoon, children will have the opportunity to discover the town library in an unusual way, while in the university library they can get busy making things for Easter.
At 3 pm, all interested parties are invited to the media centre of the BTU library. The second exhibition in the annual series of creative BTU staff members and students will open here. Under the motto "Ingeniously creative!", library staff will be showing pictures and self-designed exhibits.
This will be followed by a writing workshop for adults with health educator Nicole Dobrzynski from 4 to 6 pm. The meeting point for this joint event with the city library is in the foyer of the BTU library. Pre-bookings are welcome.
"The Time Travel Library - Escape Room" takes place at the same time, between 4 and 5 p.m., for children aged seven to eleven years in the city library in Krankenhausstraße 4. At the end of an exciting journey through different eras, the escape room will be liberated. Registrations are welcome.
Another highlight of the joint programme of the City and University Library is a reading by renowned author Franziska Steinhauer from 7:30 to 9 pm. The author, known for her captivating stories deeply rooted in the Lusatian region, will read from her book "Spreewaldrauschen". Registrations are also welcome for the reading.
Under the motto "Borrowing is the new buying", interested parties can discover the Library of Things in the BTU's on-site library.

The Night of Libraries is taking place nationwide for the first time.
Under the patronage of Elke Büdenbender, wife of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, small and large libraries, special libraries, public and academic libraries will open their doors on the first Friday evening in April and invite people to discover the wide range of services on offer in libraries.
With the Night of Libraries, the German Library Association and its 16 regional associations want to draw attention to the wide range of services offered by libraries throughout Germany and invite people to experience their libraries in a new way.
The first Night of Libraries took place in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2005. From year to year, other federal states as well as libraries from Denmark, Belgium and South Tyrol took part. At the suggestion of the Association of Libraries in North Rhine-Westphalia (vbnw), the Night of the Libraries will take place every two years in all 16 federal states from 2025.
