Obesity and diabetes at the centre of the 3rd Potsdam Prevention Symposium
"Obesity is no longer just a question of personal well-being, it is a serious medical challenge," says Prof. Dr Heinz Völler. The Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Brandenburg Faculty of Health Sciences is organising the prevention symposium, which is open to the public and will address the problem from various angles and provide valuable insights into modern therapeutic approaches.
The speakers will take a comprehensive look at the topic: Professor Völler will begin by talking about the need to understand obesity and counteract it at an early stage. Prof. Dr rer. nat. André Kleinridders, Professor of Molecular and Experimental Nutritional Medicine at the University of Potsdam, will explain why people get and stay fat. Prof. Dr Petra Warschburger, Professor of Counselling Psychology at the University of Potsdam, will then explain what preventative measures can be taken in childhood.
In the second part of the symposium, Dr Regina Gaub from the Cardiological Group Practice Am Park Sanssouci will present modern treatment options for obesity and diabetes. Prof. Dr Rona Reibis, also from the Potsdam group practice, will talk about drug-based options for weight reduction. Wael Eskander, a specialist in general and visceral surgery from the Centre for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery at the Ernst von Bergmann Clinic in Potsdam, will explain when surgical intervention makes sense.
"With these lectures, we not only want to provide scientifically sound information, but also demonstrate practical solutions," says Professor Völler. Interested members of the public are invited to talk to the experts from science and medical practice and ask their questions. Admission is free.
