12th Potsdam Day of Science - BTU will be there

"Research. Discover. Join in." - This is the motto of the Day of Science in the state capital on Saturday, 10 May 2025, from 1 pm to 7 pm. The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) will be taking part in the Potsdam Science Park with an exciting and informative programme.

BTU professors, staff members and students will present lectures on current research topics in the Fraunhofer Conference Centre and in the central building of the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces. At the same time, the many expected guests can look forward to hands-on experiments and activities at the BTU information stands.

More than 40 universities, schools and research institutions in Brandenburg will be presenting their day-to-day work beyond the walls of their institutes with a variety of programme items on the 12th Potsdam Science Day. Admission to this event for the whole family is free.

All-day activities in the BTU programme
The team from the Centre for Continuing Education (ZWW) will welcome interested people of all ages to the learning playground of the future and make lifelong learning tangible with interactive activity islands. Modern robot technology can be experienced in a playful way with the Unex school laboratory located at the university's college. Small robot arms can be operated using controllers or gesture control. Information will also be provided about the BTU's modern degree programmes.

Presentations reflect current research
In the Science Year Future Energy, the presentation by Dr Marten Klein from the BTU's Energy Innovation Centre will focus on simulations for energy systems of the future. Bartosz Łysakowski from the ZWW will illustrate the development of drones from a toy to a key technology. Prof. Simone Schröder and students of Instrumental and Vocal Performance and Teaching will illustrate the effect of music on the human organism with the involvement of visitors.

Prof. Dr Thorsten O. Zander, holder of the Lichtenberg Professorship of Neuroadaptive Human-Technology Interaction, will show how neuroadaptive artificial intelligences develop empathy for humans. Dr Owen C. Ernst, head of the HochQuant research group from the Chair of Physical Chemistry, will report on the future raw material from Lusatia: the quantum computer made from stardust.

The final highlight of the BTU lecture programme will be provided by Prof. Dr. Ruben R. Rosencrantz, who heads the new Biofunctional Polymeric Materials chair at BTU and the Life Science and Bioprocesses research area at the Fraunhofer IAP. "Cartilage from the 3D printer: How new materials could repair joint damage" is his topic.
