Federal Minister Verena Hubertz appoints Prof. Dr Ludger Gailing to the Advisory Board for Spatial Development
The topics covered by the Advisory Board encompass the entire spectrum of spatial planning as an interdisciplinary, supra-local and cross-sectional policy. The Advisory Board advises the Federal Ministry on the further development of spatial planning, particularly in view of the current challenges posed by numerous transformation processes. A striking example of this is the significantly increased demand for land in the course of the energy transition, the creation of additional living space and adaptation to climate change. Dealing with such competition for land is at the centre of spatial planning at the federal, state and planning region levels in Germany. Other important topics relate to ensuring the equivalence of living conditions, including in rural and peripheral regions, or the contribution of spatial planning to a climate-friendly transformation.
The twenty members of the Advisory Board are appointed for one legislative period of the German Bundestag. They are made up of representatives of socially relevant groups, in particular academics and practitioners, whose activities are relevant to the spatial development of the federal territory.
