Youth research at the BTU
The Hamburg-based Jugend forscht e. V. foundation is organising the Future Perspectives Forum "Climate Change and Urban Development" together with the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg at the main campus in Cottbus. "Jugend forscht" alumni aged 21 to 28 who are currently completing their training or studies or working on their doctoral studies are invited to the forum to take an in-depth look at the challenges and prospects of climate change and urban development, visit the BTU's studios and laboratories and engage in dialogue with experts. The three-day event is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
Participants in Cottbus can expect a varied programme of lectures and workshops on current research projects with content ranging from fire protection technology to designs for the conversion of existing buildings. Researchers from BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg who are working on the adaptation of buildings to climate change from the perspective of Architecture, Civil Engineering or Building Technology will be available for dialogue.
Prof. Dr Peer Schmidt, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, emphasises: "The topic of building is practically in the BTU's DNA, because our Cottbus model thrives on students and scientists from Architecture, Urban Planning and Civil Engineering cooperating and dealing with design, engineering, artistic, historical, legal, economic and administrative issues. Meeting the challenges of climate change together builds a substantive bridge between these disciplines."
Background
The Perspectives Forums are an important part of the Jugend forscht alumni programme. Former participants of the competition are to be specifically funded and supported in their career orientation. At the events, today's specialists exchange views with tomorrow's experts on social challenges and future issues. In terms of networking, the alumni also have the opportunity to make valuable contacts that they can use for their studies and careers.
