The DAAD Prize 2025 goes to Master's graduate Fatemehsadat Toghraie
For the 31st time, BTU is honouring an international student with this award for both outstanding academic achievements and exceptional social commitment. The award was presented to Fatemehsadat Toghraie by Prof. Gesine Grande, President of BTU.
BTU Vice President Prof. Wolfram Berger said: "Congratulations to the award winner! Her achievements and her commitment to her fellow students are an outstanding example of what our students from all over the world bring to the table. We are proud of her success and are delighted that Ms Toghraie will continue her professional career at BTU and remain part of the research group at Campus Senftenberg."
About the award winner
Fatemehsadat Toghraie came to Germany after studying veterinary medicine in Iran. She decided to study for a Master's degree in Biotechnology at BTU, specialising in Bioanalytics. She completed the seminars of the curriculum with very good grades. With diligence and good performance, she also integrated exceptionally well into Prof. Katrin Scheibner's scientific working group in the Chair of Enzyme Technology, where she also completed her Master's thesis entitled "Characterisation of Cell-free and Cell-based Produced Mutants of an Unspecific Peroxygenase from Aspergillus niger" (confidental).
She is known and loved by her fellow students and lecturers for her open, communicative manner. She shows her social commitment by actively helping to organise events such as "Offenes Senftenberg & Offene BTU" or the language café in Senftenberg.In the FÜS module "Student Workshop School meets Science", she was involved in organising and supervising a microbiology internship for the students in order to introduce them to scientific topics. She gave a presentation on "Microbial Degradation of Environmental Pollutants" with the aim of presenting challenging topics in a way that was easy for pupils to understand. Fatemehsadat Toghraie was nominated by head of degree programme Dr Barbara Hansen.
The DAAD Prize recognises international students for their commitment to their studies and society. The individual stories of the honoured students are representative of the enrichment they bring to both their host universities and their home countries. Today's award winners are tomorrow's partners in science, politics and business. The award is funded by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Foreign Office.
