Land-Innovation-Lausitz Autumn Symposium

Multifunctional land use and sustainable value creation in Lusatia - This year's Land-Innovation-Lausitz symposium on 20 November 2025 in Cottbus will focus on multifunctional land use and sustainable value creation in Lusatia.

In view of the coal phase-out, the ongoing changes to the landscape and the consequences of climate change, Lusatia in particular needs to utilise land efficiently while at the same time opening up new opportunities for value creation in the region. Resource-conserving cultivation systems in agriculture, the combination of different uses on the same land, the processing of biogenic or renewable raw materials, e.g. into (lightweight) building materials or other products, the conscious creation and utilisation of material cycles or the preservation and conversion of old industrial areas offer great potential for the sustainable design of the local (cultural) landscapes and for climate-adapted land use.

At the symposium, we want to discuss innovative solutions and findings from applied research into processes and technologies for multifunctional land utilisation in Lusatia and reflect on the opportunities and challenges in the region. It is important to us that regional value creation and broad social anchoring are also considered. This event is therefore deliberately aimed at representatives from business and agriculture as well as politics and administration, science and civil society.

Participation in the event is free of charge, registration is required by 29 October and places are limited. Registrations will be considered in the order in which they are received. A waiting list will be set up. Please let us know if you are unable to attend at short notice. By cancelling, you may give other interested parties the opportunity to participate.

If you have any questions, please contact Luise Porst (luise.porst(at)zalf.de) and Thomas Maurer (maurer(at)b-tu.de) from the LIL coordination team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Interested stakeholders from agriculture, science, business, administration, politics and civil society are cordially invited to a professional exchange on this topic.

The WIR! alliance Land-Innovation-Lausitz

The aim of Land-Innovation-Lausitz (LIL) is to develop Lusatia into a model region for adapting land use to climate change. We want to achieve this with the help of innovative technologies and sustainable forms of utilisation on a bioeconomic basis. More than 60 partners from research, business, agriculture, politics and administration are currently working together to achieve this.

Our research and development projects focus on the innovation areas of soil, plants and materials, the integration area of cultural landscape and the cross-sectional area of digitalisation and sensor technology. The project teams each come from science and practice and conduct research into resource-efficient cultivation systems, drought stress-resistant crops and bio-based plastics, among other things.

LIL is jointly organised by the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) and theLeibnizCentre for Agricultural Landscape Research . Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) e.V. and funded as part of the "Change through Innovation in the Region" (WIR!) programme of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) programme.funded by the programme.
