To the exciting robot competition at BTU
This international robotics and research competition for children and young people aged 6 to 16 will see school teams from all over the region compete, including two teams supervised by BTU student teachers. The participants have been preparing intensively for this day for months. Anyone who is enthusiastic about LEGO, robotics and the tricky tasks on the FLL playing field is cordially invited to experience the competition live.
The award ceremony is scheduled for around 18:40. Admission is free, registration for spectators is not required.
Archaeology in focus
The theme of this year's FIRST LEGO League 2025/26 is UNEARTHED ("Excavated - on the trail of treasures of the past"). The children and young people will discover hidden treasures, mysterious artefacts and forgotten stories. The aim is to gain a better understanding of the past in order to gain inspiration for shaping the future.
An educational programme with a lasting impact
The FIRST LEGO League educational programme accompanies and inspires pupils over several years. It has a lasting, positive impact on their skills in the STEM fields (Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Technology) as well as on teamwork and communication skills.
Accompanied by coaches, the children and young people explore a new topic each year that addresses real scientific issues from different areas, such as recycling, energy or sustainable urban development. There are two formats within the programme that are tailored to different age groups.
FIRST LEGO League Explore (6 to 10 years)
FIRST LEGO League Explore offers a playful and child-friendly introduction to the world of research and robotics. As early as primary school age, children work together to develop creative solutions to real-life problems and strengthen important future skills such as teamwork, self-confidence and their understanding of technology and science.
FIRST LEGO League Challenge (9 to 16 years)
The FIRST LEGO League Challenge is an international competition in which teams work over several months in four challenging categories: Research, Robot Design, Robot Game and Core Values. This helps to fund STEM skills in a particularly sustainable way. Many participants remain active for years and later often become involved as volunteers in the large FIRST LEGO League community.
The two best challenge teams from the regional competition in Lusatia-Spreewald at BTU will qualify for the qualifying competition on 28 February 2026 in Wildau. The grand final will take place on 18 and 19 April 2026 in Leipzig with a total of 25 teams.
