Interview with BTU alumna Maria Erdmann (BWL)

Germany's youngest Marketing Club President

Maria Erdmann studied Business Administration at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, works as Head of Marketing at Sparkasse Elbe-Elster and is the new President of Marketing Club Lausitz e.V., making her Germany's youngest Marketing Club President.

Hello Mrs Erdmann, how did you come to study Business Administration and what was your experience at BTU?
I came to study Business Administration through the many study orientation programmes offered by BTU. Even as a child, I took part in the Children's University, later in the Science Academy and then also took part in various other events at the university. So despite acceptances at various other universities, it was clear to me: I feel comfortable here - I want to start my Bachelor's degree here. This positive feeling was reinforced during my studies and I still have fond memories of the friendly atmosphere at the university.

Who would you recommend the Business Administration degree programme to and what interests and qualities should you have?
I would recommend the Business Administration degree programme if you have an interest in economic contexts. What is particularly positive about the course is that you can take a broad approach thanks to the various specialisations in the study progress: from controlling to finance to marketing, there is something for everyone.

You work in marketing, which is a career aspiration of many Business Administration students. In your experience, what do you need for this job?
In marketing, you should be able to recognise connections, be creative, flexible and be able to think outside the box. An interest in figures and controlling is also an advantage.

You are the new president of the Marketing Club Lausitz e.V. What is the club, who can become a member or take part in the events and what are your responsibilities as the new president?
The Marketing Club brings together marketing experts as well as managers and students and encourages networking. In addition to organising exciting events with the help of my board team, the focus here is always on networking. I definitely recommend students to attend an event.

What do you miss most from your periods of study?
I miss many things from my periods of study. Above all, the great campus life and the long semester holidays.
