Feminist Radio Day on Sunday, 8 March 2026
Whether queer-feminist sound systems, gender medicine, violence prevention, girls' work or civic engagement: the programme brings local initiatives from Cottbus and Lusatia into the studio as well as national guestsfrom research and the scene. Project manager Prof. Dr Stefanie Kiwi Menrath from the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) talks to researchers from Berlin about sound systems - collectively organised, mobile loudspeaker and DJ formations - and their knowledge practices.
Numerous feminist projects from Cottbus and Lusatia will be interviewed in the studio on 8 March. Project coordinator Johanna Tirnthal: "For me, free radio is a place of lived publicity. Voices can be heard here that often find no space in commercial media. It's about participation, self-empowerment and not just imparting knowledge, but producing it together."
The evening will feature a special highlight: the radio studio will become a club room during the showcase of Cottbus FLINTA* DJs. From 6 p.m. to midnight, local DJs will be spinning live - for everyone who wants to dance on site or round off Women's Day with music at home.
Interrupting the regular programme on International Women's Day in favour of feminist content is a tradition at independent radio stations. This year, sternchen.fm is also following the call and has developed a dense, dialogue-based live programme that combines information, exchange and music.
The doors of the project space and radio studio at Burgstraße 22 will be open all day. Visitors are invited to get to know the radio work, talk to the makersand experience live radio at first hand.
The special programme can be heard throughout Brandenburg on 8 March from 12 noon to midnight via the DAB+ channel Radiokombinat Brandenburg and worldwide in the webstream on sternchen.fm.
