Try it first, then study it: Instrumental and Vocal Performance and Teaching

More than just music. Instrumental and Vocal Performance and Teaching teachers pass on their knowledge, fund talent and open up new avenues of expression. By studying at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU), this vision becomes a career prospect.

To help you decide whether this is the right path for you, BTU offers prospective students the chance to take part in a taster course. The taster course includes sitting in on all seminars and the opportunity to arrange a trial lesson in your chosen major. Registration now!

The regular duration of the standard programme for the artistic-pedagogical study programme is eight semesters. For the Bachelor of Music degree, the disciplines ‘Classical’ and ‘Jazz/Rock/Pop’ are available, each with a major in harmony instruments, melody instruments or Singing. The discipline ‘Elementary Music Pedagogy’ is offered with a profile subject (instrument or Singing, optionally from the ‘Classical’ or ‘Jazz/Rock/Pop’ fields).

In addition to artistic training in individual and ensemble lessons, essential pedagogical and musical fundamentals are taught in theory and practice. Furthermore, there are various options for developing an individual specialisation.

Starting from the 2026/27 winter semester, the curriculum will also be offered for the first time as a co-op programme with a practical placement in collaboration with selected partners. The co-op programme is a pilot scheme across Germany and a supplementary offering to theregular range of courses in Instrumental and Vocal Performance and Teaching

The co-op programme, which also lasts eight semesters, comprises four practical placements with a partner organisation. Key benefits include the integration of theory and practice from the outset of the programme, a secure financial foundation, and the opportunity to explore career prospects in a clearly defined location.
