Physics study award for Björn Riedel

Björn Riedel will receive the Physics Study Award 2026 of the »Physikalische Gesellschaft zu Berlin e.V.«

Björn Riedel from the chair »Applied Physics and Semiconductor Spectroscopy« will receive the prize for his Master's thesis entitled »Epitaxial Growth of Samarium Oxide Nanoislands on Copper (111)«, which he successfully defended in April 2025. He will be the second prize winner from BTU, following Rudi Tschammer from the same chair, who won this prize in 2023.

Currently, Bjrön Riedel is continuing his research as a PhD candidate at the chair, focusing particularly on his research topic »In-situ studies of mixed cerium oxide based inverse model catalysts«, which he is conducting within the framework of the Energy Innovation Center.

The »Physikalische Gesellschaft zu Berlin e.V.« annually awards the prize to outstanding graduates from the master's degree programs in physics at »Freie Universität Berlin«, »Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin«, »Technische Universität Berlin«, University of Potsdam, and Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg.

The prize ceremony will take place on July 09th, 2026, at the »Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt«.
