Scientific conference in Northern Sweden

Researchers from the Chair of Soil and Plant Systems attended the BIOGEOMON 2026 conference in Umeå, Sweden.

Dr. Tobias Rütting presented a poster on nitrogen stocks, budgets, and fluxes in a hemiboreal Norway spruce forest. Dr. Theresa S. Ibáñez gave an oral presentation on the impacts of climate mismatch on above- and belowground carbon stocks and dynamics in boreal forests.

The conference also included several scientific excursions. One of the highlights was a visit to the Degerö Stormyr peatland research station, a leading long-term research site operated by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in northern Sweden. The station monitors greenhouse gas dynamics, mire ecology, and biogeochemical processes to improve our understanding of peatland- climate interactions.

The host institution for BIOGEOMON 2026: Ecosystems in Transition was the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).

We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of FEM Lights and Professorinnenprogramm III for Dr. Theresa S. Ibáñez's participation in the conference.
