Summer, sunshine, Sachsendorf

On Friday 10 July 2026, the Sachsendorf Cultural Campus of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) is hosting its fourth annual campus festival. From 3 pm until late into the night, guests can look forward to a varied programme of music, entertainment, culture and hands-on activities on the campus grounds on Lipezker Straße.

Highlights include an autograph session with Energie players and a public viewing of the World Cup quarter-final. Admission is free.

To organise and run the event, students on the Social Work study programme at BTU worked closely with the Bürgerverein Sachsendorf/Madlow e.V. and the Departmental Committee for Social Work as part of a project. It was only through teamwork and the help of many willing volunteers that it was possible to put together this wide-ranging programme for students, families and interested members of the public of all ages. The campus festival is supported by the Student Council and the Friends of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, the Lusatia Economic Region and the Studierendenwerk Ost:Brandenburg.

Under the motto ‘Together in the neighbourhood’, musical performances, live bands and orchestral music will provide variety, fun and a diverse range of musical styles. In addition, sporting activities, hands-on stalls and a photo corner offer plenty of interesting things to do. Football fans will be in for a treat at the autograph session with players from FC Energie Cottbus and at the public viewing of the World Cup quarter-final.

An overview of the programme

At 3 pm, Cottbus’s Lord Mayor Tobias Schick, BTU Vice-President for Academic Affairs Prof. Peer Schmidt, and Tom Riedel, Chair of the Sachsendorf/Madlow Citizens’ Association, will jointly open the event.

Following the presentation of the Frauenhilfswerk Cottbus e.V. sponsorship award, the new rainbow bench on campus will be officially unveiled.

From 3.30 pm to 5 pm, the Open Synfonic Orchestra will perform classics such as Johann Strauss’s ‘Emperor’s Waltz’, excerpts from Howard Shore’s ‘Lord of the Rings’, and Johannes Brahms’s ‘Hungarian Dance’. In a musical art performance, Martin Schüler will draw attention to his ‘Gondula Award for Child Protection’ initiative. Following a welcome address by Dr Katrin Krumrey, the Child and Youth Protection Officer for the State of Brandenburg, the bands Early Birds and Night Owls, featuring students from the Instrumental and Vocal Performance and Teaching study programme, will showcase their talents from 5.30 pm. The rock-filled programme continues into the night with the bands Third Attempt, Unplugged System, F.A.K.T. and Massendefekt.
