Spotlight on endometriosis: Information evening in Lübbenau

It is considered one of the most underestimated women’s health conditions of all: endometriosis affects an estimated one in ten women of childbearing age, at the very least. To raise awareness of this chronic condition, the BTU Finsterwalde branch is organising a public information evening on Monday, 7 September 2026, at the GLEIS3 cultural centre in Lübbenau.

The keynote speaker is Prof. Dr. med. Sylvia Mechsner, Head of the Endometriosis Centre at Charité Berlin and one of Germany’s most renowned experts in this field. In her talk, she will explain the causes, diagnostic approaches and treatment options for the condition, and provide insights into the latest research findings and developments in medical care.

The event forms part of the ‘Medicine of the Future’ Year of Science, organised by the Federal Ministry of Science, Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) in 2026. Within this framework, the topic of women’s health is also coming more into the public eye – an area that has long received comparatively little attention in research and healthcare.

The evening will be hosted by Andrea Trunev, Director of the Lübbenau Medical Centre. Following the lecture, Prof. Mechsner will discuss the specific local healthcare situation with regional female experts and answer questions from the audience.

The invitation is expressly extended not only to affected women and their relatives, but to anyone interested – including men. For although endometriosis primarily affects women, the condition often has an impact far beyond the body itself: on relationships, families, the social environment and the careers of those affected.
