A special moment: a ceremonial send-off for the graduates

On 18 September 2026, the graduates of the Cottbus main campus were given a festive send-off. Following an intensive and formative period of study, the event provided a fitting occasion to celebrate their successful graduation together and to look back on their achievements.

Prof. Dr Wolfram Berger, Vice-President for Internationalisation, conveyed warm congratulations on behalf of the executive committee. In his address, he paid tribute to the graduates’ achievements and offered them his best wishes for their future personal and professional journeys. Taliya Theresa Joseph, an Artificial Intelligence alumna and herself a recent graduate attending the event, also offered her congratulations to all the graduates, expressed her thanks to the BTU for its support, and had words of encouragement for the graduates’ future paths. 

In addition, the best final theses were awarded the Friends of the University Prize with distinction; special recognition went to: Max Zylla, Caroline Stecklina, Franziska Neuhauß, Polina Fedorova and Julian Franz for the best Bachelor’s theses in their respective faculties, and to Philipp Wolf Schleicher. Björn Riedel, Fatemehsadat Toghraie, Stefan Werner Luther, Sabine Krex, Jonas Sven Betz, Maximilian Alexander Risse and Joshua Leon Zacharias for the best Master’s theses in their respective faculties.

Musical accompaniment was provided by BTU student Gabriela Dombrowe, whose performance lent the ceremony a special atmosphere. Another highlight was the ceremonial reading out of all the graduates’ names by the alumni representatives Angela Buhl and Daniel Ebert. The grand finale was the traditional collective tossing of hats, which not only provided a special photo opportunity but also symbolically marked the transition to a new phase of life. At a champagne reception afterwards, the graduates, their families and guests were able to round off this special day together, share memories and toast their successful graduation.
