New artwork enhances the art collection and campus at the BTU

Innovation is at home at the 3H Research Centre. Scientists here conduct research into lightweight construction and value chain management. The artist Hella Stoletzki deliberately chose a different perspective for her work. On 6 October 2026, the mural in the building’s foyer was officially unveiled.

Measuring 200 by 500 centimetres, the mural combines wall painting, ceramics, drawing and metal elements to form a multi-layered collage. Seemingly contrasting elements are brought together to form a harmonious and aesthetic whole. The artwork is displayed in the bright, spacious foyer area, characterised by white walls, clean architectural lines and large windows.

The subject matter consists of everyday objects that bring the campus and campus life into the building. The description of the artwork states, amongst other things: Through the composition of objects and scenes from everyday university life, ‘observations of the “inside” and the “outside” intertwine to form a collage in which the transience of the moment and the permanence of architectural structures also converge.’ The best way to judge how accurate this is is to view the work for yourself.

The young artist Hella Stoletzki was born in Berlin in 1996 and grew up in Cottbus. As a Sorbian artist, she is a co-founder of the kolektiw wakuum. This collective of artists and cultural practitioners is dedicated to Sorbian/Wendish art and culture.

The work emerged from the ‘Art in Architecture’ competition for the new Research Centre 3H building on the main campus in Cottbus. The competition was organised by the State of Brandenburg, represented by the Brandenburg State Agency for Real Estate and Construction (BLB).

On the main campus of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Hella Stoletzki’s collage now enriches a collection of more than 20 works of art, which can be viewed online as part of an ‘Art and Campus Tour’. A tour of the site is also well worth a visit for anyone interested.
