Research Internships at the DFG Research Training Group

This year the DFG Research Training Group participated in the DAAD Research Internship Programme in Science and Engineering (RISE).

The RISE programme enables international Bachelor students to work for up to 3 months in research projects and networks in Germany. The costs are borne jointly by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Selene Hewes (McGill University Montreal) and Michael Dumas (University of California Los Angeles) were awarded RISE scholarships at the Research Training Group and will work from June to September 2015 in the research projects of Karoline Manfrecola and Sabine Kuban.

In her work in Cottbus and Berlin, Selene Hewes first examined literature on iron-concrete construction in Great Britain and the United States in order to get an overview of its construction and design. In addition to this, she was a member of a research team that investigated and documented relevant concrete structures in the Berlin area.

Michael Dumas supported the research work of Karoline Manfrecola and also worked on a separate subproject. From 21st August to 26th September 2015, he will participate in the work on the villa complex of the Emperor Domitian in Castel Gandolfo.

The Research Training Group will also participate in the RISE programme in the coming year.
