InnoTrans 2022: Manufacturing energy-efficient lightweight solutions for trains
Along the product-oriented value chain, the international and interdisciplinary teams of the departments of Polymer-Based Lightweight Construction and Joining and Welding Technology at the BTU deal with the cross-industry development of energy-efficient lightweight construction solutions and associated manufacturing technologies.
The BMBF joint project HIKOM-Pro will be presented with a focus on the process-integrative production and integration of hybrid multilayer composites. The combination of thermoplastic lightweight cores or fibre-reinforced plastics, metallic thin sheets and sensor technology to form function-integrative lightweight elements allows a significant weight reduction with functional added value. The joint project "HIKOM-Pro for the development of hybrid construction methods for floor segments and interior components with high functional density" is being carried out under the project management of TGM Lightweight Solutions GmbH in cooperation with other practical partners and the Department of Polymer-Based Lightweight Construction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Seidlitz and the Department of Joining and Welding Technology of Prof. Dr.-Ing. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
At the most important international trade fair for transport technology in Germany, the BTU is helping to design the joint stand of the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region in Hall B City Cube (Stand 210).
At the state reception on 22 September 2022 from 6 p.m., the university management will also be represented by the full-time Vice President for Research and Transfer Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Hübner.

This year the trade fair will again be held in Presence after a break due to Corona. With the pleasing development of the trade fair and the associated growth, a public weekend following the trade fair will no longer take place. Unfortunately, the lack of space in the outdoor area and the associated logistical necessities mean that it will no longer be possible to hold the event appropriately. This year, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Seidlitz is responsible for the BTU's presence at the joint stand. All interested parties are cordially invited to visit the stand and find out about the BTU's research in the field of functionally integrated multilayer composites for rail vehicle construction.
