Reason Why
Innovation driven by the Creative Economy is until today not fully grasped and defined by international standards of the OECD. Its mix of artistic and technological innovations is cross-sectorial by definition - and thus regularly out of standard administrational boxes and responsibilities: For some it is too much tech and commercial to be cultural any longer, for others to much content to be technological relevant. Nonetheless CE driven innovations have been change makers for centuries - and you need not to back til Gutenbergs printing press to understand. Some examples of today:
- Leading global platforms, having started as Jeff´s Book Store or iPod for music
- Leading global cultural movement such as gaming with some 5 Billion users every year.
- Cross-Innovation to the wider economy and society:
- Interface design, e.g. App stores with some 185 Billion Downloads per year
- Urban and rural regeneration, e.g. Zeche Zollverein in Essen or Traditional Crafts and Folk entrepreneurs from Tallinn to Cape Town (Jinju Traditional Crafts Biennale)
- Cultural Heritage and Nature, e.g. Foundation Fürst-Pückler-Museum, Brandenburg or Urban Gardening being UNESCO Heritage having started in the 14 century , e.g. Bamberger Süßholzgesellschaft.
Given this tremendous economic impact it is time to understand CE driven innovations systematically scientifically in depth - beyond mere listing of illustrative examples. Europe must close its knowlegde gap about one its most successful types of innovations: the cultural creative innovations and innovators.
