Translation tools and hints
As an internationally oriented university, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg cooperates with partner institutions around the world in the areas of research and knowledge transfer. More than 30 percent of our students come from abroad.
This should also be embodied by our website. We are striving for b-tu.de to be as consistently bilingual as possible. You can help us achieve this by consistently translating the content of your pages. To make this as easy as possible, we offer various tools and assistance.
Website translation
To make website translation as easy as possible, we work with a DeepL plugin for Typo3. This can be used to automatically generate an "English twin" for German pages. Currently, we have one million characters available for translation per month.
Machine translation cannot guarantee error-free results. You must perform quality control of the translated content. Manual line breaks (Shift+Enter) are not detected during translation and may need to be touched up manually.
Static websites
For translations of static websites (subject, area pages, etc.), you can follow the MMZ video tutorial and choose the DeepL plugin for the actual translation. All page content will then be translated automatically.
Dynamic website (editorial system)
As soon as the German version is ready, activate the DeepL plugin in the list view of all messages (1st icon must turn dark) and then initiate the translation (2nd). It takes a while until the page reloads. The English version has now been generated and can be found slightly indented below the German original. Now all fields can be checked for errors.
Official documents
Official documents, regulations, contracts, etc. should not be translated by machine. Use here the services of translation agencies with which the BTU has currently concluded framework agreements
BTU Glossary German-English
In order to use the most uniform terms possible for the presentation of the BTU, the Office of Communications and Marketing has compiled a glossary.
This list of terms with the respective English translation was compiled on the basis of central publications, regulations, and presentations. It is updated and updated regularly in cooperation with a translation agency. The glossary can be used by BTU members for all translations into English.
