Cosmopolíticas do Design e das Artes
Our PhD candidate, Marina de Castro Teixeira Maia, PhD candidate, will present findings from her doctoral research at the V Colóquio de Pesquisa em Design e Artes, hosted by the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil, on 6 November 2025. Her research examines how historiography can depict urban master plans as epistemic artifacts that create and stabilize particular ways of knowing, governing, and imagining the city. The study draws on two landmark plans from Porto Alegre (Brazil) — the 1914 Plano Geral de Melhoramentos e Embellezamento and the 1979 Plano Diretor de Desenvolvimento Urbano.
The Colóquio, themed “Cosmopolíticas do Design e das Artes”, is a transdisciplinary forum that discusses how design and the arts can work towards challenging anthropocentric hierarchies by articulating situated knowledges and imagining more just futures. The event and the presentation will take place online, in Portuguese.
