Aims of the Study Programme
The interdisciplinary Master's degree programme Building History and Art History deepens and specialises the academic and practice-oriented qualification in its field. It enables students to independently develop a critically reflected and well-founded methodological approach to architectural, artistic, structural engineering, urban planning and heritage conservation phenomena that is appropriate to their own research interests.
After successfully completing the Master's degree programme, graduates will have a broad, selectively in-depth and methodologically reflected overview of the historical development of architecture, art and urban planning from its beginnings to the present day. They are familiar with current research debates and methodological discussions in art history, building research, architectural conservation, construction history and architectural theory and have gained insights into the current challenges of architecture, urban planning and civil engineering.
The programme also serves to acquire and develop key qualifications. These include the ability
- to work independently and in a research-oriented manner, both individually and in interdisciplinary teams,
- to conceptualise, guide and coordinate research and communication projects in the field of the history and theory of architecture, construction and the built environment, both independently and in collaboration with others,
- to convincingly communicate individually or jointly developed research results to both a specialist audience and an interested public in appropriate publication, exhibition or visualisation formats.
