on november 11th prof. kühn helt a lecture with the title 'reflections on architecture' at universidad francisco de vitoria madrid. the lecture is available in full length on youtube.

in the winter term 15 the 'regelmaster' will be organized by the chair prof. kühn. the task will be presented in pallanza at lago maggiore, italy on october 16. the project site is located in that area. students can plan their trips individually. everyone who is planning to do their master thesis next semester should get in contact with ms marianne köhler and should enroll on the moodle platform. further information will follow!

we are looking forward to a pleasant kick-off of the semester at the lago maggiore shore!

on july 14th the jury session for the master project for this years egon eiermann prize took place in our atelier. we would like to thank the guest critics beate engelhorn (curator AEDES), mark jenewein (partner of LOVE architecture) and thomas bochmann (partner of studioinges) for their participation!

from june 01-06 we hosted the second international oikonet workshop with teachers and students from all over europe. the topic of the workshop was 'growth/shrinkage' and included lectures, a guided bike tour through cottbus and a bus trip to and around berlin. we would like to thank the city administration cottbus and the city department for urban redevelopment berlin for their support. the results of the student work can be accessed on the workshop blog. >>blog

obituary on architect, university teacher and humanist helmut striffler.

one of the most renowned german architect of the 20th century died in his home town of Mannheim on February 2, 2015 .

striffler was a big supporter of the btu. for his achievements in research and teaching, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the faculty II architecture, civil engineering and urban planning in 2008.

wir freuen uns außerordentlich, dass es uns gelungen ist, prämierte architekturfilme nach cottbus zu holen. erstmalig werden in deutschland alle gewinner des architektur film festivals lissabon 2014 zu sehen sein.

als fulminanten auftakt zeigen wir die ausgezeichnete dokumentation über den brasilianischen architekten sergio bernardes (1919-2002). unter der regie von gustavo gama rodrigues und paulo de barros und mit beteiligung von thiago bernardes - enkel von sergio bernardes und ebenfalls architekt - wird das abwechslungsreiche leben eines kompromisslosen architekten erzählt, dessen werk von beeindruckendem visionen zeugt.

die filmvorführungen finden im rahmen der vortragsreihe derdiedas ab den 14. april immer dienstags um 18h im hörsaal 3 statt. alle interessierten sind dazu sehr herzlich eingeladen!

from march 2-8, 2015, we went on an excursion to istanbul in the context of the upcoming world heritage seminar ' architecture.city.space ' in the summer term 15. we would like to thank our cooperation partners in istanbul for the exciting lectures,  their organizational support, workshops and city-walks that have made this unique city even more fascinating. many thanks to zeynep günay (istanbul technical university) , gregers tang thomsen / nikitas gkavogiannis (superpool) and yonca erkan (kadir has istanbul university)!the research undertaken during our stay in istanbul will be further developed in the coming semester and submitted as a contribution to the arch + competition 'planetary urbanism '.

we are happy to congratulate our collegue belinda rukschcio for winning the audience prize at the lisbon film festival 2014 for her film project 'precise poetry - lina bo bardi's architecture'!

from june 15-21 our chair was on a field trip to belgium. we visited architecture in brussels, antwerp and ghent. on the way there we also stopped in essen and cologne.

as part of the design project eped 'bad gastein - potentiale und perspektiven' we spent four days with our students in the alpine city of bad gastein. the design task will build upon the collected material and the in situ site analysis. we would like to thank our supporters in bad gastein, above all mr ike ikrath and the local tourism association.

we would like to congratulate our first-year students for winning this term's studio prize!

on january 23 we had the second of this terms field trips to berlin. we got guided tours through the dutch embassy by rem koolhaas and the galerie am kupfergraben by david chipperfield. moreover we visited the grimm zentrum by max dudler.

architecture organizes human shelter. the implementation of "beauty" in design is of high value. in case of mutation of the aesthetics to end in themselves, the discipline loses sense and purpose.

on october 09 2013 the diploma ceremony for all architecture graduates from the summer term 13 took place at btu cottbus. the chair of prof. jörg kühn, that had organized this diploma turn, would like to congratulate all the graduates and wishes all the best for their further career!

from july 1 to july 7 the second workshop in the course of 'i would rather live differently - spacial experiments in film' took place in vienna. in the realm of the workshop, which is organized as a cooperation between tu vienna and eth zurich the students could work on their short films that will eventually be presented on september 28 in berlin. vera kumer and philipp teister gave input in film editing and burkhardt rukschcio gave a tour to adolf loos' house on michaelerplatz.

we would like to thank pi de bruijn from de architecten cie / amsterdam who held an incredibly interesting and inspiring lecture at btu cottbus on july 10, 2013! he talked not only about his projects, but also gave deep insights into his work as an architect throughout the last decades.

in the course of this terms seminar 'i would rather live differently - spatial experiments in film' the first meeting of all the participants took place at eth zurich on may 16 (dr. doris agotai und marcel bächtiger / eth zürich, vera kumer und philipp teister / tu wien, belinda rukschcio und almut seeger, tu cottbus).

right now 16 students from btu cottbus are attending the workshop 'restricted area access' at the technical university vienna. throughout this collaboration between students from both universities the participants will be developing experimental films under the supervision of vera kumer and philipp teister.

as part of 'get in touch with the dutch' the architect wiel arets held a lecture at btu cottbus on june 27. we are very happy to be able to report on an highly intriguing and inspiring contribution to the lecture series. wiel arets spoke about his manifold fields of interests and research topics that inform his work as an architect. on top of that he presented an impressive selection of projects from his office. we would like to thank mr arets for his commitment and his exciting talk! with wiel arets the lecture series 'get in touch with the dutch' unfortunately resumes for this semester. the chair prof. jörg j. kühn however, is currently working on a sequel of the series next semester with more interesting architects from the netherlands. but most of all we would like to thank our audience for their continuous interest throughout the semester and wish all of you a good summer!

we are very happy to report on an exciting lecture by dutch architect john körmeling at btu cottbus. mr körmeling spoke about a selection of projects that he developed throughout the last decades and that showed his engagement at the interface of architecture and the arts. with lots of wit, charm and inspiration he allowed deep insights into his manifold work and broad fields of interest. the chair prof. jörg j. kühn would like to thank mr körmeling for his contribution and hopes to welcome as many guests and visitors at the next lecture, which will be held by the renowned dutch architect wiel arets on june 27!

on june 13 the dutch architect marlies rohmer held a lecture at btu cottbus. ms rohmer allowed intriguing insights into her work and her wide field of experience. on the basis of a selection of projects she explained her design priciples and work methods. we would like to thank ms rohmer for her incredibly fascinating contribution to the lecture series and hope to welcome her at btu cottbus again soon.

according to this term's emphasis the chair prof. jörg j. kühn had organized a field trip to the netherlands. together with students from both bachelor and master programmes we visited architecture in the cities of rotterdam, hilversum, amsterdam and utrecht from june 3 to june 9. moreover we had the unique opportunity to meet up with architects such as jo coenen, branimir medic (de architecten cie) and mels crouwel (benthem & crouwel), who guided us through their own construction sites, finished projects and their own office environments. we would like to thank them for their time and commitment! fittingly the entire trip was topped off by a visit to the house schröder by gerrit rietveld, who is also the name giver for our studio spaces here at btu cottbus.

we are very happy to report on a very inspiring and successfull field trip and we would also like to thank our students and participants for their interest and motivation!

on may 30 jörg petri from the well known dutch office un studio held an exciting and interesting lecture at btu cottbus. he presented a variety of projects that also sought to illustrate the office's design principles and architectural concepts. the chair prof. jörg. j. kühn would like to thank mr. petri for his contribution to the lecture series 'get in touch with the dutch' and hopes to welcome as many guests to the next lecture on june 30, when marlies rohmer will talk about her architectural oevre.

on wednesday may 9, branimir medic from de architecten cie held a lecture as part of the series 'get in touch with the dutch'. under the subtitle 'dutch unfold' he presented an intriguing choice of both architectural projects and urban planning schemes to the audience. on top of that he discussed issues such as global exchange of architectural expertise as well as dutch architectural export. the chair prof. jörg kühn would like to thank branimir medic for his inspiring contribution and is looking forward to welcoming many guests at the next lecture.

the chair prof. jörg j. kühn is very proud to report on a very interesting and inspiring lecture held by jo coenen on april 25 at btu cottbus. jo coenen did not only present his own multifacetted oevre but took the opportunity to discuss general questions and challenges that architects and urban planners are facing in our times. the entire chair would therefore like to thank jo coenen for his great lecture and on top of that for his willingness to be an active part of the award ceremony of this terms PIN UP exhibition where he handed over the prizes to students from the faculty. the next lecture within the framwork of 'get in touch with the dutch' will be on may 9, 6pm, and will be held by branimir medic from de architecten cie. we would be more than happy to welcome you there again!

one year of dutch architecture at BTU!

throughout the summer term 12 the chair prof. jörg. j. kühn will thematically focus on dutch architecture and has therefore prepared an accordant semester programme with dutch-related design projects, building science seminars, a field trip to the netherlands and - as the centrepiece - a lecture series with guests who will talk about dutch architecture and architectural theory.
