Short Biography

Dr. Muhammet Esat Tiryaki has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Urban Design and Urban Studies at Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus–Senftenberg since April 2026. He completed his doctorate at the Institute for Social Sciences (Urban and Regional Sociology) at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He has held various academic positions as Researcher, Lecturer, and Postdoctoral Fellow at Istanbul Technical University (Urban and Regional Planning), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Urban and Regional Sociology), Technical University of Berlin (Sociology of Space) and Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus–Senftenberg (Urban Design and Urban Studies). He was also a visiting researcher at HafenCity University Hamburg (Urban Planning). His current postdoctoral project investigates how algorithms shape networks, mobilities, and belonging in urban spaces, with a particular focus on the everyday practices of Uber and taxi drivers in Berlin and Istanbul.
