Short Biography

Dr. phil. Carolin Genz is Interim Professor of Urban Design/Urban Studies at Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus–Senftenberg, where she has been representing the chair since April 2026. She is also an Affiliated Postdoctoral Researcher in the DFG Research Training Group “Societal Transformation and the Spatial Materialization of Housing” at Goethe University Frankfurt.

Previously, she served as University Lecturer at TU Wien (Department of Housing and Design). From 2022 to 2025, she led the research cluster “Housing in Urban Development” at vhw – the German Association for Housing and Urban Development. She has also worked as a Research Associate in the Collaborative Research Centre 1265 “Re-Figuration of Spaces” at TU Berlin. She completed her doctorate at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin with an ethnographic study on urban protest practices in the context of the housing crisis.
