The research centre investigates the development of disturbed landscapes with post-mining landscapes of the Lusatian mining district (Eastern Germany) as case study. Recent research analyses basic ecological topics as well as practical issues of reclaiming these landscapes.
FZLB coordinates the landscape observatory Hühnerwasser (Chicken Creek) as an interdisciplinary research platform of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
The research centre is responsible for managing the Centre for Sustainable Landscape Development (Zentrum für Nachhaltige Landschaftsentwicklung, ZfNL), a joint institution of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, GFZ Potsdam and IGB Berlin.
