Children's university about the meaning of school

The question of why school is necessary is the focus of the current online lecture at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg Children's University on Thursday and Saturday, March 24 and 26.

Every weekday children go to school. Every now and then there are vacations, but after that it's back to school. As early as 62 A.D., Seneca said, "We learn not for life, but for school." Is the Roman philosopher right about that, or isn't it actually different? The Children's University lecture "School- what for?" discusses what school is and why children need to go there. In addition, we will take a look at the past - whether there were schools there, how and what was taught there.

"Let's see if we might learn something for life in school after all," says the speaker at this Children's University lecture, Prof. Dr. Juliane Noack Napoles, who heads the Department of Educational Sciences at the BTU's Institute of Social Work.

Pupils from the third to sixth grades are cordially invited to attend the Children's University lecture "School - what for?" from the comfort of their sofa at home. After the required registration by e-mail, they will be sent the link to access the lecture. This Kinderuni lecture for participants at the Cottbus central campus will begin on Thursday, March 24, at 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. and will last 45 minutes. Registrations and inquiries can be made at the e-mail address heike.postelt(at)b-tu.de or by calling 03573 85-280.

On Saturday, 26 March, at 11 o'clock begins this lecture for the participants of the child university at the Campus Senftenberg. For this registrationand/or further inquiries under the email address kinderuni(at)b-tu.de as well as under telephone 03573 85-335 take place.

Background Children's lectures are intended to arouse early interest in solving scientific and other questions, to give children the opportunity to experience the flair of a university. The BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg provides solutions to scientific phenomena of everyday life in a child-friendly, exciting way and thus creates formative experiences and experiences that are intended in particular to reduce the inhibition threshold to a university.
